About Canada

Canada is located in northern North America, extending from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the Arctic Ocean. Its official languages are English and French. The nation's economy is well known for natural resources, advanced manufacturing, and financial services.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal across Canada, though dry communities exist in northern territories and certain First Nations reserves. Commercial packaged imports must be consigned to provincial liquor boards, which manage monopoly or hybrid retail systems and apply wholesale markups frequently exceeding 100% to 160%. Spirits enter customs duty-free but face additional duty matching domestic excise rates alongside sales taxes. Local distilleries commonly produce gin, vodka, liqueurs, and whisky, while exporter demand centers on premium spirits, authentic tequila, mezcal, and ready-to-drink cocktails.
