The market
Czech hard-liquor sales fell sharply in 2024 (industry members reported a drop of more than 50% in the first half of 2024), after excise on spirits rose 10% that year; drinkers are switching to ready-to-drink mixes that bear little or no excise. Vodka is still the best-selling spirit and Tuzemak, a traditional rum-style spirit, is second although it fell almost 10% through November 2024; only whisky, aperitifs and packaged mixed drinks grew. Stock Plzen-Bozkov (Stock Spirits) is the largest local producer (CZK 3.6bn revenue, last financial year to 30 September 2024).
Importing
Czechia is in the EU: spirits enter under the EU common external tariff (almost always 0%) plus Czech excise, which rose 10% in 2024 (the Ministry of Finance said in late 2024 no change to the structure was planned). VAT and the excise rate were not confirmed. Still wine is outside spirits excise and RTDs carry little duty, so imported spirits compete against cheaper, lower-taxed categories.
