About Ghana

Ghana is located in West Africa along the Gulf of Guinea. English is the official language, alongside several widely spoken indigenous languages such as Akan. The country's economy is predominantly known for its production of cocoa, gold, and oil.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal nationwide, with retail sales licensed by local assemblies and commercial imports restricted to registered Ghanaian corporate entities. Spirits face a 20% customs duty on CIF value, a 25% import excise duty, 15% VAT, and additional statutory levies. Local producers primarily manufacture bitters, gin, herbal spirits, rum, and brandy. An expanding hospitality sector creates opportunities for exporters of Scotch whisky, Cognac, and premium vodka who partner with registered local importers.
