About Liberia

Liberia is located on the Atlantic coast of West Africa. English serves as the official language, spoken alongside numerous indigenous languages. The country's economy relies primarily on natural resources, including rubber, iron ore, and timber, as well as commercial maritime registry services.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal nationwide, and private licensed outlets distribute spirits without a state monopoly. Commercial imports require an approved Import Declaration Form and incur a 20% CIF customs duty, 12% GST, and excise taxes that were reduced in 2025. With minimal domestic commercial spirit manufacturing, local producers focus mainly on rum and gin. Consequently, international distillers have strong export opportunities, as urban demand in Monrovia for whiskies, brandies, and premium spirits relies almost entirely on foreign supply.
