About Tajikistan

Tajikistan is a landlocked Central Asian country bordered by Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Tajik serves as the official state language, while Russian is widely used for commerce and official communication. The national economy relies heavily on agriculture, particularly cotton cultivation, as well as mineral extraction and aluminum manufacturing.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal for adults aged 18 and older, with importation conducted by registered commercial entities holding activity authorizations and product conformity certificates. Spirits face customs duties between 10% and 15%, specific excise taxes per liter of pure alcohol, and 14% VAT. Local manufacturing focuses primarily on vodka, cognac, liqueurs, and tinctures. Consequently, Dushanbe's urban retail and hospitality channels show steady demand for premium imported whisky, cognac, and vodka, where foreign brands face minimal high-end domestic competition.
