About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country located in East Africa. Its official languages are English and Swahili. The nation's economy is predominantly known for agriculture, especially the cultivation of coffee and tea.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal in Uganda for adults aged 18 and older, and sales operate through private wholesale and retail channels. Imports require tax registration, PVoC verification, and digital tax stamps, alongside 25% to 35% customs duties, an 80% or UGX 3,500 per litre excise duty, and 18% VAT. Domestic facilities primarily produce waragi, gin, vodka, and neutral spirits. High per-capita alcohol consumption drives steady opportunity for exporters of premium spirits, including Scotch whisky, Cognac, and premium gin.
