About Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is a landlocked country located in Central Asia. Its official language is Uzbek, with Russian also widely spoken in commerce. The nation's economy is well known for agriculture, especially cotton cultivation, as well as mineral extraction, natural gas, and textiles.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal in Uzbekistan with a minimum purchasing age of 21, though commercial imports and wholesaling are restricted to licensed resident legal entities registered with the Asl Belgisi tracking system. Imported spirits face a 30% duty (minimum 1.00 USD per litre), an excise tax of 76,000 UZS per litre, and 12% VAT. Local manufacturers mainly produce vodka, brandy, cognac, liqueurs, and neutral ethyl alcohol. Supermarket and hospitality growth offers opportunities for exporters of premium spirits like Scotch whisky, Cognac, and gin.
