About Egypt

Egypt is located in Northeast Africa, connecting the continent with the Middle East across the Sinai Peninsula. The official language is Arabic, with English widely used in commerce. Its economy is known for tourism, agriculture along the Nile, international shipping through the Suez Canal, and manufacturing.

The spirits market

Egypt operates under partial prohibition, restricting alcohol sales to licensed venues and bottle shops, with sales to Egyptian nationals banned during Ramadan and Islamic holidays. Local producers manufacture brandy, whisky, gin, vodka, ouzo, RTDs, and bulk spirits. Imported spirits incur a 3,000% customs duty, 14% VAT, and an excise duty of EGP 4,800 per hectoliter for products over 16% ABV. Consequently, export opportunities are heavily constrained and limited almost exclusively to international hotel chains, diplomatic channels, and airport duty-free concessions.
