About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is located in southern China, with Chinese and English serving as its official languages. The territory is globally recognized for its open economy, operating as a leading international financial and commercial trading hub.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal in Hong Kong, where commercial imports require an Import and Export Licence and a Removal Permit. There is no sales tax, and spirits above 30% ABV incur excise duty of 100% on value up to HK$200 and 10% on the portion exceeding HK$200. Local producers manufacture gin, liqueurs, and whisky. This duty reduction on value over HK$200 lowers costs on luxury products, creating strong opportunities for premium spirit exporters.
