About Namibia

Namibia is located in southwestern Africa along the Atlantic coast. While English is the official language, Oshiwambo, Afrikaans, and German are also widely spoken. The country's economy is recognized for mining, agriculture, fishing, and tourism.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal for adults aged 18 and older, with private sales regulated through licensed bottle stores and on-premise venues. Importers need a NamRA Customs Client Code and wholesale licence, paying excise duties over N$260 to N$280+ per LAA, import duties up to 154c/li, and about 16.5% effective import VAT. Local distillers produce brandy, gin, and rum, but domestic premium spirit production remains minimal. Exporters of premium craft spirits can supply the active retail and safari tourism sectors by partnering with licensed wholesale distributors.
