About Peru

Peru is located in western South America along the Pacific Ocean. Spanish is the official and most widely spoken language, alongside indigenous languages such as Quechua and Aymara. The country's economy is primarily known for mining, agriculture, fishing, and resource exports.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal for adults aged 18, though nationwide dry laws occur during elections, and retail sales operate privately without a state monopoly. Commercial imports require SUNAT and DIGESA registrations, subject to an 18% IGV, excise tax, and a 6% duty that drops to 0% under trade agreements. Local manufacturers center largely on pisco, brandy, rum, and gin. Exporters face no import quotas and can target demand for premium categories like single malt whiskies and gins.
