About Greece

Greece is located in Southeastern Europe at the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsula, bordered by the Aegean and Ionian seas. The official language is Greek. The nation's economy is largely known for maritime shipping, tourism, and agriculture.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal in Greece for adults aged 18 and over, sold through private retail, specialty beverage shops, and licensed hospitality venues. Registered businesses can import spirits at 0% customs duty under HS heading 2208, subject to standard 24% VAT and €2,450 excise duty per hectolitre of pure alcohol. Domestic distillers heavily produce ouzo, tsipouro, and tsikoudia under a 50% reduced excise rate. Inbound tourism and cocktail culture create strong opportunities for exporters of premium craft spirits, aged rums, and whiskies partnering with local distributors.
