About Slovakia

Slovakia is a landlocked country located in Central Europe. The official language is Slovak. Its economy is largely driven by industrial manufacturing, particularly automotive production and heavy engineering.

The spirits market

Alcohol is legal in Slovakia, with distribution handled by licensed private businesses rather than a state monopoly. Registered operators holding an EORI number can import most spirits duty-free, though sales are subject to an excise duty of €1,490.40 per hectoliter of pure alcohol and 23% VAT. Domestic producers primarily produce fruit brandies, eau-de-vie, vodka, borovička, and liqueurs. Opportunities exist for exporters supplying premium aged rums, single malt whiskies, and craft gins to urban retail and hospitality venues.
